Once again we had a really large group come out for our April meeting, and they were rewarded with a fascinating presentation on E. G. Chormann. He was a less-than-stellar Union officer during the Civil War but more to the numismatic point he was a die sinker who was involved in the creation of many tokens and the Colorado gold pieces. He also proposed and made examples (private patterns) of "anti-clipping" coins that were designed so it would be evident if any of the metal was shaved off the edge. Here is one example that uses a scalloped design near the edges that would be altered if any of the edge were removed (JC1861-17):
Our next meeting will be held on May 9th at 7:30 at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. The topic will be the much-anticipated sequel to the presentation we had on US 19th century type coins earlier in the year. This time the focus will be on dimes through dollars, so we hope to see you there! Show and Tell will be "anything goes" so bring something to share!
